アメリカ人アーティスト、ロー・エスリッジ（Roe Ethridge）の作品集。「ボストン現代美術館（The Institute of Contemporary Art Boston / ICA Boston）」の企画展シリーズ『Momentum』の第4回目の展覧会開催に伴い刊行された。作者は風景写真やポートレイト、静物写真などといった従来より分類されている写真のジャンルに、ファッションや広告からヒントを得て、そこに現代的な感性を融合したイメージを作り出す。様々なアプローチをもって、写真というジャンルの可能性を形式的かつコンセプチュアルに引き出している。松の若木、化粧を施したモデルの顔、けばけばしいピンクのリボンといった、ありふれたものを平面的にクローズアップして撮影し、無機質なアイコンとして表現する。『Momentum』はアメリカをはじめ世界各国の新進作家を紹介する展覧会シリーズであり、作者は2005年に個展を開催。同時期にロンドンの「greengrassi」でも本作のシリーズの展覧会『COUNTY LINE』を開催している。

New York-based photographer Roe Ethridge is the fourth artist featured in the Momentum series. Ethridge’s work brings a contemporary sensibility informed by fashion and advertising to traditional genres of photography such as landscape, portraiture, and still-life. Ethridge’s practice reflects a variety of approaches to photography, exploiting the possibilities of the genre both formally and conceptually. In many of his photographs, the artist uses flat, close-up shots of ordinary objects—a young pine tree, a model’s made-up face, a gaudy pink ribbon—to present them as deadpan icons. Published in 2005 on the occasion of the exhibitions Momentum 4: Roe Ethridge at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston and County Line at greengrassi, London.
